Hardware and network#

BoxerBase runs entirely in the browser, so it works on the devices you already have. This page lists what each role needs and how to set up the network for a stable event.

Devices per role#

  • Supervisor: a laptop running modern Chrome, per ring or per event.
  • Judges: one device per judge position. Any phone or tablet with a modern browser works, including old Android devices. Nothing to install.
  • Corner screens: any screen with a browser showing the live score page, or an external display connected to the supervisor’s computer.
  • Public screens: the same live score page in normal mode, fullscreen.

Organizers have run events on tablets and phones that were no longer in use. Test the scoring screen on the devices you plan to use before the event.

Network#

Use a dedicated router or WiFi network for the event devices, separate from guest WiFi. The system needs little bandwidth, but shared venue networks cause disconnections, especially with several rings scoring at once.

Practical setup that works for most events:

  1. One router per venue, connected to the internet.
  2. All supervisor, judge and corner devices on that network.
  3. A test pass on event morning: connect a judge device to a bout and enter a score.
